Construction on Peach Street Interchange Ends

Posted: Updated:

After nearly two years of construction, PennDOT is announcing the end of the upper Peach Street construction project on Wednesday.

26,000 cars pass through the Peach Street to the I-90 interchange every day. The area sees heavy traffic, especially around the holiday season. The nearly $16 million project has widened and lengthened the two left turn lanes going from Peach onto I-90 East and I-90 west.

The new left turn lanes opened on Labor Day weekend, and this month, sidewalks and synchronized traffic lights are to be installed.

The lights will allow drivers to make it most of the way up Peach Street without hitting a red light.

The sidewalk has been spotty along Peach Street, but now pedestrians will see a connected sidewalk from Douglas Parkway to Robison Road.

PennDOT is holding a press conference in Splash Lagoon's parking lot at 1:30pm on Wednesday to announce the official end of the construction project.
