Franklin Prepares for Applefest Crowds

Posted: Updated:

About 100,000 people are expected  to travel to Franklin starting tomorrow for Applefest. The 3-day festival draws visitors from several states.

Today vendors and volunteers were busy setting up shop in two downtown parks near the Venango County Courthouse.

Applefest has grown tremendously since it began 31 years ago. It is a major community event showing off the area, and providing a huge boost to the local economy.

Lynn Cochran of the Franklin Chamber of Commerce said, "What started out as a community pie baking contest with 38 entrants 31 years ago has become a true economic engine."

About 300 volunteers are helping to put on the event.
