Thursday morning Mayor Joe Sinnott recognized the LECOM School of Pharmacy, in honor of National Pharmacist Month.
The Mayor presented students with a proclamation from the city, in honor of LECOM's commitment to pharmacy education.
The month- long celebration of pharmacists recognizes their contributions to healthcare. Students say they do much more than dispense medication.
The theme of the month is "know your medicine, know your pharmacist."
"Everybody knows their pharmacist, everybody likes their pharmacist, but I think we're underutilized severely," said LECOM Pharmacy student Alex Covey. "We represent a very accessible mode of healthcare for patients, you don't need an appointment... you can just walk in and talk to us."
LECOM has several community events planned for this month, including a free health fair at the Millcreek Mall October 19th.
