Friends and family of a Millcreek man, protested in front of the Millcreek township building Thursday afternoon.
They're upset that the family's pet Pit Bull was shot and killed by a police officer.
Joe Vitarelli says he was horrified to learn that his one year old dog Gage was killed by an officer.
When the officers arrived the dog was hanging from a tree by his jaws.
Vitarelli says that's how the animal played, but the officers said the dog was acting aggressively, and scaring neighbors.
The protesters say there has to be another way.
"Other means need to be used, this needs to stop and I feel as though he was killed
because of his breed and for no other reason," said Millcreek resident Heather Garczynski.
Police are standing by their actions, saying the dog wasn't on a leash and was acting aggressive.
