Two people were recognized Tuesday for making a difference to the youth of Erie county.
Steve Simmelkjaer and Sonya Arrington were honored by the organization called Positive Youth Development or PYD.
Simmelkjaer works with youth from Erie's east side.
Arrington founded a group called Mothers Against Teen Violence, known by many as MAT-V.
Erie County District Attorney Jack Daneri was the guest speaker for the event.
"I think it's important to realize how important the youth are that are out there," said Daneri. "Many times we have a somewhat negative thought about them, they they're disconnected or not engaged with us. Guess what? it's our job to keep them connected," Daneri continued.
PYD is hosting other events this week, including a youth summit to be held Friday in Union City.
