The City of Erie Housing Authority is celebrating a major milestone, of 75 years of service, this year.
Friday night they has a special dinner at the Bayfront Convention Center in honor of that milestone.
Dr. Jay Badams, superintendent of the Erie School District, and Colonel Doris Tate-Johnson, an ex-Housing Authority resident, were on hand to speak at the gala. Both addressed the crowd on the importance of education.
"Education is the key," said John Horan, Executive Director of the Housing Authority. "It's a key for all our residents to be able to get out of public housing and move on with their lives. So we really give them an opportunity to get their foot on the bottom rung of the ladder and help on their journey to economic self-sufficiency."
The Housing Authority is the oldest operating authority in the City of Erie. They provide housing to over 3,000 families.
