"King of Arms" - Erie Arm Wresting Team Makes New AMC Show

Posted: Updated:

AMC is coming to Erie to film a new show called "King of Arms."

The new reality show will chronicle the lives of arm wrestlers here in Erie, along with arm wrestling team members in New York City, Baton Rouge, Kansas City, Mo., and Sacramento, throwing the little-known world of competitive arm wrestling into the limelight.

"On Wednesday, AMC gave the green light to go public with the new show," said Bart Wood, of the Erie Power Arm Wrestling team.

Wood said a driving force behind AMC reaching out to the Erie arm wrestling team is Erie Native David Chaffee's success.

Chaffee won the World Championship in 2010 and will compete in Warsaw, Poland, in just a few weeks.

"They're (AMC) going to a lot of big cities, and then there's Erie, PA, so it's pretty neat," said Chaffee.

AMC also produces the Emmy-award winning "Breaking Bad," and top-rated "The Walking Dead."

They've brought on star producers to work on "King of Arms," such as Ethan Prochink - producer of "the Deadliest Catch," a popular reality show on the Discovery Channel.

The show will follow the lives of these arm wrestling club members, and the end of each episode in this 10 episode season will feature an arm wrestling match.

"You're going to see some big personalities, probably some over-the-top actions," said James Wagner, another member of the Erie arm wresting team. "But you're going to also see some hard arm wrestling. I know if I'm going to be pulling on television, I don't want to lose. And I'm going to put everything up there that I have."

Viewers will be able to follow Erie natives on the road as they travel in pursuit of a big win.

AMC crews will start filming in Erie this November, and the show is scheduled to air around October of 2014.

Erie's Power Arm Wrestling team announced the big news on Saturday during a regional qualifier match held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars building.
