Toledo maintained its perfect homecourt record in Mid-American Conference play this season with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-21, 16-25, 25-19) victory on Saturday evening over arch-rival Bowling Green. The Rockets now stand at 7-3 in league play and 14-10 overall and have won all six of their conference contests in Savage Arena.
Senior OH Lauren Rafdal once again paced UT offensively with 17 kills and also tallied 11 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Senior RSH Becca Reidy joined Rafdal in double figures with 11 kills and collected 12 digs for her sixth double-double as well.
Toledo also received strong offensive contributions from its middle blockers with senior Dakota Harkins (team-high .389 ATK%) and junior Brooke Frazer (.250 ATK%) tallying eight kills apiece. Frazer led the Midnight Blue and Gold with five blocks with senior S Adria Pryor registering four rejections.
Pryor quarterbacked UT's attack by distributing 49 assists and helped the Rockets notch a .235 attack percentage or higher in Sets 1, 3 and 4.
Leading Toledo's back-row defensive efforts was freshman libero Ellen Hays with 14 digs.
Senior OH Paige Penrod led the Falcons with 17 kills, while senior OH Lindsey Butterfield added 16 kills with match-best .429 attack mark.
Toledo started the match strong and led the entire opening set with Harkins and Reidy paving the way with four kills apiece. UT scored the first three points of the match and forced the Falcons to call an early timeout by taking a 10-5 lead. The visitors climbed within two points at 11-9, but the Rockets withstood the rally and never let their lead dip below three the rest of the way.
The second set featured nine ties in the early stages, and the Falcons gained some breathing room with three straight points to take a 13-10 advantage. UT rebounded quickly though with a 7-1 spurt for a 17-14 cushion and cruised the rest of the way for a four-point Set 2 victory.
Bowling Green didn't go away without a fight and took control of Set 3 early with an 8-1 surge for a 9-3 lead. UT did rally to within four points at 12-8 later in the frame but couldn't draw any closer.
Rafdal asserted herself in the final set with seven kills and a .429 attack percentage. The
Falcons grabbed an early 6-3 lead, but the Rockets fought back with a six-point streak to take a 12-8 advantage and never looked back.
Toledo will return to action next weekend for its final two home matches of the 2013 campaign when it hosts Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1-2.
