Suspect Killed by Police Identified

Posted: Updated:

Erie police have identified the suspect killed by police following an armed robbery.

The man is identified as 30-year-old Dionne Jordan.  Erie Police Chief Randy Bowers said he is the suspect in a number of robberies throughout the area.

According to Chief Bowers, Jordan committed an armed robbery at the Widget Financial branch on East 38th street just moments before he was shot and killed by police.

Chief Bowers said Jordan barged into the credit union around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday with a mask on and gun drawn.  During the robbery, police say he threatened to shoot the employees and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

According to Chief Bowers, Jordan then ran north on East 38th Street into a wooded area, and eventually reached his vehicle which was parked behind Tops Friendly Market.

Officers were waiting there for Jordan after identifying his SUV and ordered Jordan to stop.  Chief Bowers describes the moments leading up to the shooting.

"He (Jordan) entered his vehicle," said Chief Bowers.  "They continued to give him commands.  He refused to comply.  He then exited his vehicle with weapon drawn, faced-off with officers, and he was shot by police at that time."

The autopsy is still underway.  As of now, the chief would not say if Jordan's gun was loaded.  Were told, four officers were involved in the shooting.  They're now on administrative leave.
