State Representative Ryan Bizzarro, (D) 3rd District, has been inviting representatives from around the state to Erie this week. On Friday night, it was State Representative Brian Sims, (D) 182nd District.
Sims is the first out LGBT member of the Pennsylvania General Assembly. He talked to people Friday about equality legislation. Sims has introduced the state's Marriage Equality Act.
He said equality is going to take all 67 counties in Pennsylvania coming together.
"Historically, one party has been more supportive of equality than the other, but in the last election cycle, I think we really learned that Americans no longer are voting anti-equality," said Sims.
"When you talk about discrimination, it's not a party issue," said Bizzarro. "It's not a Republican issue, not a Democrat issue, a liberal issue, a conservative issue. It's what's right and there's a lot of bipartisan support on this, more than you think."
Sims said every piece of LGBT legislation in the state does have a GOP cosponsor.
