Millcreek Paramedics Meet "Emergency!" Star

Posted: Updated:

Millcreek paramedics met a celebrity on Friday at the Belle Valley fire station.

Actor Randy Mantooth is in town to help the fire station celebrate it's 75th anniversary of serving the community.

Mantooth starred in the television show "Emergency!" as John Gage, an ambulance paramedic. The show helped the public realize the value of having immediate response services and was the first television program of it's kind. It aired from 1972 until 1979.

""Emergency!" didn't invent paramedics," said Mantooth, "But what it did do was expose them to the world at the time."

"It's a great opportunity to showcase the advances in life support service, especially since Mr. Mantooth was an originator in introducing paramedic treatment and transportation back in the 1970s," said Dennis Suscheck of the Millcreek Paramedic Service.

Friday's event was a meet and greet with Mantooth, but he will serve as the main speaker at Belle Valley's anniversary banquet on Saturday night.
