Sharon Community Turns Out For Vigil

Posted: Updated:

Members of the community in Sharon, PA came together Sunday evening for a vigil to mourn the loss of two football players, and a community member killed in a head-on crash on Friday.

The two senior Sharon football players who died in that traffic accident were 18-year-old Cory Swartz and 17-year-old Evan Gill.  Two other team members, twin brothers Greg and Craig Osman, suffered serious injuries in the collision, but are in stable condition at Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.

Sharon is also mourning a husband and father, 50-year-old John Zdelar of Brookfield who also died in the accident.  He was the driver of the second car involved in the collision.

Those who gathered Sunday night lit candles as they shared a dark moment in the life of the Shenango Valley community.

Members of the Sharon Tigers team have decided to forge ahead and face Girard in a playoff game Monday at Veterans Stadium in Erie.  The game that had been scheduled for last Saturday afternoon was postponed until this week because of the tragic accident.  According to reports from WFMJ-TV in Youngstown, two members of the Sharon team plan to wear the jerseys of Cory and Evan during Monday's game.
