Fatal Apartment Fire in Meadville

Posted: Updated:

Investigators are trying to figure out the cause of a fatal fire in Meadville.

The fire broke out in a three-story apartment building at 561 1/2 Lord Street around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

According to Crawford County Coroner Scott Schell, a 37-year-old man died of asphyxiation due to smoke inhalation.  Schell says he noticed other injuries on the man, so his death is still under investigation.

As of tonight, the victim's name has not been released.  The fire was contained to the first-floor room in the back of the building.
