Thanks to your donations, Thanksgiving will be a bit brighter for a lot of local families this year.
Tonight, we'd like to thank the community for making our 13th Annual Food Drive a huge success.
For nearly 13 hours, in 10 separate locations, members of the community dropped off groceries and donations for the Second Harvest Food Bank.
This year, your donations helped raise $38,431 for the food bank. As for food, a total of 38,300 pounds was collected, including 367 turkeys. All of the food donated will stay in the community that it was donated in. Second Harvest will take the monetary donations and purchase more food at the main warehouse in Erie to distribute to the member agencies.
"The response to this food drive has been tremendous," said Second Harvest Food Bank Director Karen Seggi. "The community really steps up and helps the Second Harvest Food Bank and this is the time of the year when we really need the community to help."
According to Seggi, monetary donations are up 17 percent this year.
