Conneaut Lake Park Lawsuit Moves into Courtroom

Posted: Updated:

A legal battle over control of Conneaut Lake Park moved into a courtroom this morning. But Crawford County Judge Anthony Vardaro heard no testimony, and made no major rulings.

The Pennsylvania Attorney General's office has filed a lawsuit against the current 8-member volunteer Board of Trustees, saying the members failed to properly care for the park. A key argument is the failure to have fire insurance for the Beach Club and Dreamland Ballroom. Both buildings were destroyed in major fires.

The judge today ordered the trustees to provide all financial and meeting records and insurance policies not already provided to the Attorney General's office.

He said the information must be turned over within 30 days. He expects to then schedule another hearing to determine if the lawsuit should move forward.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees Jack Moyer said, "Trust me, we are doing the best we can with what we have to work with. We have nothing to hide."

Greg Sutterlin of Park Restoration, LLC  said, "We'll see what happens. We're looking forward to the future. We feel confident the Attorney General will prevail."

The current court-appointed trustees began overseeing the park in 2007.
