Erie Fire Crews Make Quick Work of House Fire

Posted: Updated:

The Erie Fire Department made quick work of a house fire on Maple Street, near 34th Street, Wednesday evening.

The calls came out just before 5 o'clock of heavy smoke showing. When crews arrived, they discovered a fire in the crawl space above the second floor.

Once they got to the area, the flames were quickly extinguished.

Jeff Carroll, Deputy Chief of the Erie Fire Department, said it appears the fire started behind the refrigerator in the kitchen on the first floor, then went up the back wall, spreading to that crawl space.

The two people who live inside, and their dog, were not home at the time the fire broke out.

Carroll said there is some heavy water and smoke damage to the back of the house and much of the second story.

Fire investigators were still on the scene at 6:30 PM. The official cause of the fire is still being investigated.
