Car Accident Causes Peach Street Power Outage

Posted: Updated:

Power is out on Peach Street between the McDonald's and 38th St on Friday morning after a two-vehicle accident.

Police responded to the scene just before 7AM, where a driver was trapped in his truck after his vehicle clipped another car, became airborne, then hit a power pole.

Erie Fire Department removed the driver-side door and evacuated the driver in about 10 minutes. He suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

The driver of the other car involved says the truck driver ran a red light.

"He ran the red light and  hit me in the front end. I stopped so I wouldn't hit him any more. Then he starts swirling around in circles, hit the telephone pole, and knocked all the lights out," said John Wagner of Erie.

Power is spotty starting from 38th and Miller to 38th and Cherry Street, where the street light is out.

Penelec arrived on the scene and around 7:15AM and is working to restore power.
