Erie, PA- Brace yourselves! An arctic cold front will move across the area this afternoon dropping a quick inch or two in spots. Lake effect snow will develop later today and into tonight across the area and continue through Sunday afternoon.  This has prompted a Lake Effect Snow Warning for the viewing area which is in effect through Sunday evening.

Our First Warning Weather Team is forecasting the heaviest amounts in the higher elevations of northwest Pennsylvania.  Total accumulations by midnight Sunday night will range from up to 6 inches near the lake to around a foot across the higher terrain of northwest Pennsylvania.

Northwest winds will pick up to 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph tonight and last through Sunday morning before decreasing.  These winds will cause blowing and drifting snow.  If you have to drive, be alert for rapidly changing weather conditions.

Forecaster John Stehlin will be updating the forecast this evening on Weekends Now with Lisa Adams.
