Lake Effect Snow Warning Now into Thanksgiving Morning

Posted: Updated:

Erie, PA - The Erie area woke to 4 to 6 inches of heavy wet snow. With the temperatures staying right around freezing most major roadways remained clear and passable.  Road crews didn't have to battle the sub freezing temperatures, yet. The Erie Airport was not reporting any delays of outbound or inbound flights early this morning. There are some evening flights to and from Philadelphia on US AIR that are showing up as canceled. You can check the live arrival and departure board through the link listed as it could change through the day.

Our Thanksgiving travel troubles are not over. A lake effect storm warning remains in effect until 4 a.m. Thursday morning. We may pick up an additional 3 to 8 inches of lake effect snow and winds shift off the lake.

Look for snow showers to increase in the afternoon hours then start to taper off from the west to the east later tonight into Thanksgiving morning. Winds will turn northwest from 15 to 20 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH that could cause blowing snow and reduced visibilities.

The falling temperatures could freeze some of the earlier wet snow on side streets so use caution as the chill moves in. Check PA Road conditions through 511pa.com - link listed below.
