Erie City Council is closed to passing a budget for the upcoming year.
The past couple of weeks, they've met with separate departments. On Monday. they discussed what came up in those meetings. There were three big topics: garbage fees, sewer fees and CATV.
Council decided to go ahead and approve fee increases for garbage and sewage, but with a Sunset Provision, meaning they will work during 2014 to come up with a better way to make things more affordable for tax payers.
"Those issues are really important to us because we worry about the ability of city residents to pay those increase costs," said councilwoman Jessica Horan-Kunco. "So we needed to look at that and evaluate whether or not that cost could be something we could discontinue in the future years if possible."
Council also decided to reallocate more money of the budget to CATV, giving them $75,000 instead of $25,000.
The final budget is set to be passed on December 18.
