Two men are in custody, tonight, after police caught them in the act of an armed robbery.
The incident happened at the Dollar General on 714 East Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. According to police, the two men ran inside and held the store up at gun point.
According to Erie Police Sgt. Keith Kaschalk, an employee saw this happening on a security camera in the back of the store and called police. At least three customers were also inside the store.
Sgt. Kaschalk says that when the two men ran outside with a bag of cash in hand, police were waiting. The two ran back inside and officers surrounded the building.
At that point, we're told that the two men ran into the basement. Police say they were able to get the employees and customers out safely. Officers then convinced the suspects to give up. The two suspects were then taken into custody for questioning. Their identities have not been released.
Police also recovered a loaded handgun at the scene.
