Two Erie teens are facing charges, after officers say they caught them red-handed during an armed robbery at an east side store.
They're identified as 17-year-old Emire Rosendary and 16-year-old Darnell Hemphill. They're charged under the Fisher bill as adults, with robbery and theft. Rosendary is facing more charges including terroristic threats and possessing an instrument of crime.
Erie police say around 8:30 Tuesday night, they barged into the Dollar General store near 7th and East Avenue. Rosendary was armed with a gun, and they demanded cash.
One employee was in the back of the store, and saw the robbery unfold on a security camera. So, they called police. Officers were waiting in the parking lot, when the suspects came out a minute later, with a bag of cash in hand.
Police say the robbers then ran back inside and down into the store's basement to try and hide. It didn't work. Police took them into custody a short time later.
An officer on the scene said "It's good police work. Guys, just being in the area at the right time. Actually, being out on their patrols, where they are suppose to be. But it's really good work actually by the store. By the employees that were in there. The one being in the back inventory cameras. Maybe they heard an alert because of the other stores that have been hit lately."
And Erie police say they are looking into the possibility of a link between that Dollar General robbery, and the one at the Family Dollar the night before, also on Erie's east side.
That holdup was near 23rd and State streets. Store workers told officers that a masked man carrying a gun came in, and demanded money.
