Christmas House Fire Leaves Linesville Home Unlivable

Posted: Updated:

A fire on Christmas night in Linesville kept seven crews battling the flames from 11pm until early Thursday morning. Now one family is left without a home.

The fire started in the garage of the custom-built home at 16987 Linesville Road. When crews arrived on the scene, the garage was fully involved in flames and couldn't be saved.

Winter conditions forced crews to use the town's hydrant system.

"Water, to a degree, was part of the issue because of how cold it's been the past couple of days. We couldn't just hit a pond nearby - we came all the way back into town, used the hydrant system, which is three to four miles away," said William Mickle, Linesville Fire Chief.

Slick driveways did not help. "I had three guys fall last night just on the driveway. Luckily no one got hurt, but it takes one slip and someone gets hurt and that just changes the world," Mickle said.

Neighbors say the flames lit up the sky. Neighbor Shela Hand lives half a mile away, but said she could still see the flames.

"We looked out and was just looking around, and we just seen a blaze like you would not believe. It was so scary," Hand said.

Crews focused on saving the house but one side of the house is exposed to the winter elements. Mickle said that the house is salvageable.

While unfortunate at any time, this home fire on Christmas night was perhaps especially so.

""To have everything that you just got on Christmas morning, probably all burnt - that's not good," said Brian Moss, another neighbor.

But most importantly, everyone's safety is intact. The family is getting help from family, friends, and the Red Cross, until repairs can be made.

A Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal is still investigating the cause of the fire.
