Police have identified the body of a teenager found in west Erie this afternoon.
The deceased is identified as 19-year-old Keith McGhee of Millcreek.
Police say McGhee went missing on New Year's Eve after he left a house party in Erie.
Officers found McGhee's body around 12:30 p.m. Thursday in a patch of snow-covered bushes off of West 19th and Peach Streets.
According to Erie Police Chief Randy Bowers, the party that McGhee was at, was within walking distance of where he was found.
Chief Bowers is calling this incident a tragic start to the new year.
"It appears that he walked away from a gathering, and certainly, I'm sure anyone there didn't realize he was going to be in danger later," said Chief Bowers. "It's an unfortunate way to lose a young life."
The Erie County Coroner's Office is expected to perform an autopsy on McGhee in the next couple of days. At that time, they will determine a cause of death. As of now, no foul play is expected.
