Autopsy Completed, Erie Coroner Releases Name Of Weekend Homicide Victim

Posted: Updated:

The coroner has released the name of the homicide victim, from a deadly weekend shooting.
He's identified as 26-year old Rasheed Anderson.

Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook says Anderson died of one gunshot wound to the chest.

His death marks the city's first murder of the new year, happening less than a week into 2014.
It happened at a private party inside of the old East Side Turner's building near 8th and Parade streets.
Police say shots rang out just before 1:00 a.m. Sunday killing Anderson and injuring 3 other people, a man and two women.

People living in that east Erie neighborhood say it has seen it's share of gunfire in recent months.
"Kids are dying out here. The violence needs to stop and I'm talking to all kids - mine, yours, whoever is out here carrying these guns. These bullets don't have eyes - innocent people are getting shot," said Neighborhood Watch Coordinator Pam Simmelkjaer.

Detectives say there were about 200 people at the private party, but the witnesses to the shooting are not being very cooperative with investigators.
We'll have the very latest on the investigation tonight on WICU and WSEE.
