Erie Home Invasions & Shootings Under Investigation (12pm UPDATE)

Posted: Updated:

Police are investigating three attempted home invasions in Erie's east side from Sunday night overnight into Monday morning. Shots were fired at all three locations and one incident resulted in a man sent to the hospital.

1404 E. 8th Street: The most recent invasion happened on E. 8th St just after midnight on Monday morning.

A woman responded to knocks at her door when two men, one armed with a handgun, tried to force their way inside. One man was masked and the other wore a hoodie.

The woman reportedly retrieved her own handgun, and the suspects fled upon seeing her weapon. She fired after the suspects, but no one was injured.

725 German Street: At 11pm on Sunday, shots were fired on German Street after another attempted home invasion.

This incident detailed one masked gunman trying to force his way into the home. The suspect fired shots when the resident tried to close the door; the suspect then fled the scene.

400 block of E. 23rd Street: The final home invasion attempt happened around 10pm Sunday night and sent one man to the hospital.

A 22-year old man suffered a bullet wound to the back after the incident at his home on E. 23rd street. He was taken to UPMC Hamot for treatment and his name is not being released at the time.

Two masked and armed men allegedly tried to force their way into his home. When police arrived on scene, the suspects had already fled.

According to police, the motive for this third incident was possibly a dispute over money but the victim couldn't identify the suspects to confirm.

Erie police say they have no reason to believe the three incidences are related.

"That we can tell right now from physical descriptions of the people and from the different victims, there's no indication that any of these shootings are tied together. Just one of those coincidences of three shootings at almost the same time," said Lieutenant Stan Green.

All three incidences are still being investigated.
