NY Governor Declares Snow State of Emergency

Posted: Updated:

Erie, PA - The Erie region got several inches overnight but by mid morning the snow has picked up and many accidents are being reported on area roadways. We remain under a Winter Storm Watch through 5p.m. this evening.

As the snow moves East is it impacting New York and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has declared a state of emergency for the entire state as a winter storm hits the region.

Due to extreme winter road conditions, PennDOT is temporarily reducing the speed limit on interstates and expressways across Pennsylvania, effective immediately.PennDOT is urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel but those who must head out will see speeds reduced to 45 mph on the following highways:

  • Interstate 86 in Erie County
  • Interstate 90 in Erie County
  • Interstate 79
  • Interstate 80

If you do have to travel use caution in the next few hours. Snow should taper off later in the afternoon but we can expect winds to shift and have some additional snow showers and blustery conditions. If you can delay travel conditions should improve the later in the day you can delay.

Erie could crack the 100 inch mark with the snow today and that is our normal average for the entire snow season.
