PennDOT is planning on refurbishing the 38th Street Bridge this summer.
The project is expected to take about two months to complete. Crews will be working on the structure above and below the bridge.
PennDOT estimates that 13,000 vehicles travel on the bridge daily, and the construction will cause some temporary closures to Interstate 79, and a detour for local traffic.
"It's about a 5-mile detour from Zuck Road down to 26th Street and back up to Peach," said Bill Petit, PennDOT District Executive. "The reason for that particular route is that's all state roads. That doesn't mean local traffic won't find their own least path of resistance whether it's Ellsworth or Greengarden and Grandview, what have you."
It's expected cost about $1.3 million. Construction is set to begin this August.
