Peach Street House Destroyed by Fire

Posted: Updated:

3 people are out of their home Friday after a fire broke out shortly after 11 a.m.

Crews worked at the home at 4619 Peach Street for 40 minutes to put the flames out.

Kearsarge Fire Chief, Dan Hersch, said the fire extended from the basement of the home to the attic, causing extensive damage.

"The staircase leading to the second floor was completely burned out," said Hersch.

3 adults were living at the house; however, only one person was home at the time of the fire.  The man inside was able to escape but he did suffer minor burns and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Along with the heat, firefighters also had to battle the cold.  The Red Cross was on hand to set up a warming shelter for crews at the scene.

Chief Hersch said it took a team effort to get the fire under control.

"We had crews from all the Millcreek Departments, as well as the city of Erie.  It took a great coordinated effort to find and suppress the fire and begin with other operations," said Hersch.

The Kearsarge Fire Department is still working with Millcreek Police to determine the cause of the fire.

This is just one of many fires area fire departments have battled, this winter season.
