"Erie Explosion" Honors Vets and Military in Appreciation Game

Posted: Updated:

The Erie Explosion played their third annual football game for veteran and military appreciation
at the Erie Insurance Arena on Sunday, playing the Chicago Blitz.

The Explosion wore special camouflage jerseys donated from Harley Davidson in show of their support.

There was also an American flag presentation at half time. It's the largest flag in the tri-state area.

Organizers say the veterans appreciation game is always one of the most popular.

"It's the least we can do here. We're playing in a game and they're putting their lives on the line for us. We're excited about being able to honor them," said Bill Stafford, owner of the team. "One of our players is active guard right now, and in turn, it's also very, very important for him to be a part of it. He's the one who encouraged us to start this."

All proceeds will go to the Erie County Veterans Memorial fund.
