Fire Destroys Summit Township Mobile Home

Posted: Updated:

A Summit Township family of 7 is homeless after fire gutted their mobile home. Luckily, no one was hurt, although the family's pet dog and cat were lost in the blaze.

Volunteers from five companies fought the fire in bitter cold. And they were forced to dig out the closest hydrant because it was covered with snow.

Smoke from the older model mobile home could be seen as far away at Interstate 90. The fire gutted the mobile home. And the family lost everything.

Brian Fenno managed to get his fiance and two children out of the burning home. Three other children were at school.

He said, "I was battling frozen pipes this morning and went to my neighbors to get something. I came back. I saw the home was up in smoke. I ran in and got the girl and kids out and everything."

Volunteers say the cause is undetermined but they think it may be related to the attempt to thaw the frozen pipes.

The family is now staying with relatives. The American Red Cross is helping out with food, clothing and other items.
