VisitErie today awarded $50,000 to boost 6 local tourist marketing projects.
The program was created with increased funding from the higher Erie County hotel-motel tax. VisitErie will provide matching money ranging from $2500 to more than $17,000.
Each project is a joint effort with a tourist attraction and hotel or bed and breakfast. The goal is to attract new tourists and extend their stays in Erie County.
John Oliver of VisitErie said, "It gives them the opportunity to go out and advertise more on radio, television and print. But it is designed to have the promotion done outside of Erie with the effect of trying to encourage visitors to come and spend a night here in Erie utilizing their facilities."
Some of the companies involved in the effort include Splash Lagoon, Mazza Vineyards, and the Erie Philharmonic.
