PennDOT Boss Discusses Rail Terminal Debate

Posted: Updated:

The proposed $60 million rail terminal project in Harborcreek has generated a lot of debate since it was unveiled last November. But despite the concerns about traffic problems, PennDOT has not spoken out, until now.

Today in Oil City, PennDOT District Executive Bill Petit said he thinks the entire process should be re-set. He thinks it is critical to get the most accurate information out to the public.

He knows traffic is the big worry. And he says PennDOT will carefully review the study now being done by consultants for DevelopErie, the key backer of the project.

He said, "We'd like to see the amount of traffic going into and out of the site. Where they intend to deliver that traffic to. And understand how that traffic flow is going to be absorbed into the existing system. So we are going to digest that information, make sure of it, and try to mitigate whatever might by delivered to the existing network."

Representatives from PennDOT and DevelopErie will meet with elected officials tomorrow to exchange information ahead of an April 3 public meeting.
