We have new information tonight on a story we first told you about over the weekend. The Cell Block bar in downtown Erie is not only closed, it is up for sale.
The Cell Block on State Street closed its doors March second and never re-opened. That's after two women flagged police down to report that a man was shot inside the bar.
Liquor license holder Robert Perry didn't return our calls today, but property owner Dave Hertwig did. He told us he has several prospective buyers interested in the Cell Block.
Erie Downtown learned the same thing as they considered the cell block for another downtown block party this summer. Since the business may change hands, they've decided to put that plan on hold for now.
John Buchna, CEO of Erie Downtown said, "My recent conversation with the owner is saying he has talked to three different groups about the possibility of acquiring it. These groups are experienced, with multiple locations and it could be a good investment for downtown Erie, so we're looking from that perspective as a potential new owner in downtown."
Hertwig hopes the sale will happen quickly. One prospective buyer is expected to visit Erie next week.
