Sunday marks "National Doctors Day" and Saint Vincent Hospital took time Friday morning to honor two of its finest.
Saint Vincent Primary Care Physician Richard Cogley and Urologist Peter Lund were selected by their peers as the 2014 Doctors Day honorees.
Dr. Cogley earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh and began his career at Saint Vincent as a family practice resident in 1978. He then joined the Saint Vincent Medical group as a primary care provider in 1983.
"Overall I feel blessed," Dr. Cogley says. "Blessed that God called me to this profession that I've had the opportunity to not only serve patients but serve the staff, the administration and the community through work."
Dr. Peter Lund earned his medical degree from Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine and completed his residency at the Medical College of Ohio. He began his career at Saint Vincent in 1987.
Dr. Lund became the third Erie physician to be elected as President of the Pennsylvania Medical Society in 2005.
"They are leaders in the community but also leaders amongst the physicians," says Scott Whalen, President/CEO of Saint Vincent Health Center. "Its a right and a great tribute for them."
A number of events were scheduled throughout the day as all Saint Vincent physicians were recognized for their contributions to the hospital, patients and the Erie Community.
