You have a few more hours to go on-line to vote for a grant to help fund a new weather buoy that should be a big help to local boaters.
A half dozen similar projects are vying for the $10,000 grant. Right now, the local project is leading the pack. But the race is close.
The money would be used for a video camera and other add-ons to the $100,000 buoy set to be deployed in May about 5 miles off Walnut Creek. The voting deadline is midnight.
Jeanette Schnars of the Regional Science Consortium said, "I am extremely excited. Our project is up against 5 other projects that are from large cities and famous beach towns. And we are holding our own in first place."
The buoy will provide information on weather, waves and water quality.
