Erie police detectives were scrambling Sunday afternoon to help a family who reported an 8-year-old girl missing. Police described the girl as Nepalese, 4 feet tall and weighing 85 pounds.
Police officials say that although the child had been missing since Friday, family members did not call police to report it until Sunday afternoon.
When WICU12/WSEE learned about a search for the child Sunday afternoon, we sent a news crew to the neighborhood. The search centered in the 600 block of East 13th Street.
Soon emergency dispatchers reported that the girl had been found. She was returned home at 5:15 PM.
We talked to her father Ssar Tamant. Because he is from Nepal, his English is broken, but he told us, "I'm happy my daughter is found my family is together...any thing can happen but I think all, everything's good."
The father seemed to suggest that the child may have been at his brother's home, but that is not confirmed. Erie police are expected to turn the case over to Children's Services.
