Erie City Council Approves Garbage Fee Changes For Landlords

Posted: Updated:

Wednesday, Erie city council took another step towards collecting more than $2 Million dollars in delinquent trash fees.

Council unanimously ok' d a plan to require all landlords to be up to date on trash fee payments.

Proof of payment would be necessary for landlords to renew their city rental licenses every 2 years.

As we've been reporting, many of the biggest delinquent fees are owed by landlords.

"There are going to be some adjustments down the road to put a little more pressure on them but at least we have something going down to collect the fees, and we are very happy about that," said Council President, Mel Witherspoon.

Council members say they're still exploring other ways to collect the delinquent fees including combining trash, sewer, and water fees into one bill.
That would give the city the ability to shut off water if trash bills aren't paid.
