Erie Police Probing The City's Latest Homicide

Posted: Updated:

One man is dead and another is hospitalized, after a shooting Tuesday morning on Erie's east side.
The case has left a lot of unanswered questions for Erie police.

Erie police got called to a shooting, just before 7:00 Tuesday morning.
When officers arrived at the home along east 27th, near eEm street, they were heavily armed.

Officers discovered 2 men had been shot, an unidentified 37-year old man was shot in the leg.
And according to police, 38-year old Stephon Bibbs, was dead.

Both were found inside the home, on the first floor.
Bibbs lived in the upstairs apartment, the 37 year old lived in the downstairs apartment.
Investigators recovered one gun from the scene.

An autopsy got started around 1:00 Tuesday afternoon and was expected to wrap up Tuesday evening.

A woman and child were also home at the time of the shooting, but Erie police say they were not hurt. They were brought in to police headquarters for questioning.

Erie police detectives spent the day interviewing witnesses and sorting through all the evidence. In the morning and early afternoon, police hadn't yet been able to interview the surviving shooting victim.

"We're not really clear on a motive yet. We're doing a lot of detailed interviews with the people that are available to be interviewed," said Police Chief Randy Bowers. "There's more questions than answers right now," Chief Bowers added.

Erie police are asking that if anyone who lives in the area, particularly along east 27th street, and north of the home on east 28th street, if anybody saw anything suspicious or that may be related to the case, call police at 870-1159.
