Waterford Woman Dodges Phony Tax Scam

Posted: Updated:

We first told you back in March that tax scammers were looking to take your money; and they're most aggressive in the two weeks leading up to the IRS filing deadline.

Donna Rose, of Waterford, received a suspicious "IRS" phone call, but was not fooled.

"We're going to put out a warrant for your arrest, we're going to put a lien on your property, and we're going to have your bank frozen," is what the man on the phone told her.

All of this said because she allegedly didn't pay her 2010 taxes.

Rose immediately went to her CPA, who told her the 2010 taxes she filed, were fine.

"She said everything's fine, then she went on the website and said this is one of the numbers on the scam call list," said Rose.

The scammers' phone number is 914-364-9546, and Rose traced it back to New York state.

"I just want other people to realize they're trying to scam people and it can't happen," she said.

And remember, you have just 2 more days to file.
