Charges Could Be Dismissed Against Illegal Immigrant Whose Case Sparked Protests In Erie

Posted: Updated:
Charges could be dismissed against an illegal immigrant from Mexico.
His court case spurred lots of controversy here in Erie.

WICU & WSEE has confirmed that US Attorney David Hickton, has filed a motion to dismiss an illegal reentry charge against Alfredo Ramos Gallegos.

You may remember, his case sparked an immigration rights rally in Erie last month.
Last month, three busloads of people from his US home of Painesville, Ohio, came to Erie in protest, as Ramos Gallegos made his way into a federal courtroom.
They protested both for his case to be tossed, and immigration reform.
While he is in the country illegally, he's lived in Painesville for about 20 years, working and raising a family.

A judge still has to make a ruling on whether the case will be dropped.
