Laker Pitcher Breaks 99-year old PSAC Record

Posted: Updated:
In the opening game of the PSAC baseball tournament, Mercyhurst pitcher Dan Altavilla struck out 19 batters, 12 straight at one point, to break a 99-year old conference record as the Lakers defeated West Chester 6-0. The old mark was set by Shippensburg's Clyde Mellinger back in 1915 when he struck out 18 versus Kutztown. Altavilla went seven and two-thirds innings, allowing just two hits, and walking a pair. Offensively, Mercyhurst broke the game open with a four run third inning. The Lakers meet Millersville in the semifinals on Friday.
