The ongoing din of opposition from residents of Harborcreek Township over a proposed cargo rail terminal has apparently proven to be too much for supporters, who announced today those plans are being abandoned.
The 60 million dollar project would have used cranes to transfer containers from rail cars to trucks and back, part of a complex intermodal system designed to remold the area as a logistics hub, tying rail, truck and ship routes together.
Members of DevelopErie announced that their best choice for the transfer station would be on property just west of Walbridge Road near the tracks.
Neighbors expressed concern over pollution, lights and mostly traffic over the popular north-south road that already deals with daily train crossings.
At least one Harborcreek supervisor is meeting with DevelopErie staff Monday afternoon for more details. We will have complete details coming up on WICU TV 12 beginning at 5pm and SEE News at Six.
