Figaski to Serve on Authority He Wants to Disband

Posted: Updated:
The Millcreek supervisor, who has been a thorn in the side of the township water authority, is now a voting member of that authority.

Supervisors today voted 2 to 1 to appoint Rick Figaski to fill a vacancy on the water authority. This comes at a time when Figaski  is leading a campaign to disband the authority, and sell all its assets to the Erie Water Works.   Supervisor John Groh nominated Figaski to the post. Figaski seconded the motion.
Supervisor Brian McGrath voted "no." He says having Figaski serving on the water authority would be "uncomfortable."

"It has happened in other municipalities.   I think that it is rare.   Particularly in this case, I think it's just a bad idea," McGrath said.

Figaski, last week, accused the water authority of breaking Pennsylvania's Sunshine Act.  He said authority members acted in secret when they hired a PR firm.  He believes the firm is launching a "smear campaign" against him and the Erie Water Works.

"I envision there are going to be some very tense times.   I envision that I am not going to be the most welcome person on this board," Figaski said.
