Elster American Meter Retirees to Lose Medical and Life Insurance Programs

Posted: Updated:
Erie, PA (WICU-WSEE) -- Retirees covered under "Elster American Meter Company Retiree Life Insurance" and "Elster American Meter Company Retiree Medicare Reimbursement" programs have received notice that their programs will be terminated before the end of the year.

WICU-WSEE obtained paperwork, originally given to an American Meter retiree, stating that his life insurance coverage "remains in force for (his) lifetime."

When WICU-WSEE contacted the Benefits Specialist listed as the contact in the termination notice, she declined comment.

According to the notice, affected retirees will no longer have company sponsored life insurance as of August 31, 2014. They will lose company reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses not covered by medicare after December 31, 2014.
Local retiree, Thomas Ragen, still has his original paperwork stating lifetime coverage, and is now looking for representation to battle their loss of coverage.

"When I retired I expected the benefits for the rest of my lifetime and all of the sudden out of a clear blue sky they think they have the right to take them away from us, and i disagree whole heartedly."
