48th Annual Erie Zoo Parade Draws Thousands

Posted: Updated:
Thousands of people lined Erie's downtown State street for the 48th annual Zoo Parade on Saturday.

The only zoo animal to actually partake in the parade are the llamas, the only harness trained zoo animal, though the zoo is working on bringing in alpacas for future zoo parades.

But some other animals did join in, there were horses and dogs too.

Organizations from all over the community partake in this parade each year, including Lilly Broadcasting's Emily Welsh from WSEE and Amanda Post and Mike Ruzzi from WICU.

"I like candy, I like the animals, and I want to go to the zoo after the parade," said Gabriel Dolak, one of the many kids enjoying the parade on Saturday.

Heading up to the zoo with the whole family is a popular post-parade event, according to parade organizers.
