Governor Tom Corbett visits Erie Thursday, to make a big announcement, regarding the future of the Flagship Niagara.
The governor held a news conference Thursday afternoon at Erie Maritime Museum, announcing $4.8 Million in tax dollars, is going to the Brig Niagara.
It'll go towards improvements to prolong the life of the ship for the next 25 years.
The Governor is no stranger to the Niagara.
Back in 2012, Corbett sailed on the tall ship for the first time.
It was actually the first time in 15 years, that a governor took a trip on the Niagara.
As for the ship itself, it's in need of some repairs, to increase it's safety and stability.
The ship is a reproduction of the original Brig that fought in the Battle of Lake Erie during the war of 1812.
