The Erie County Career Link office is working is get a summer jobs program for youth up and running. The office hopes to start the program by July 1.
Last Monday, Erie County Council gave $100,000 to the program, and yesterday, the Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority gave another $100,000.
Career Link is now recruiting employers, such as Gannon University and Edinboro University to provide the jobs.
"We're looking to get 100 youth participants. We will not turn any employers away that is interested. We want to work with everybody. If we have more employers that we originally sought out, and we have more youth than we originally thought out, that's a great problem to have," said John Flanagan, Senior Program Officer.
The Erie Community Foundation has pledged $25,000. It is being used to promote the program to employers and to young people.
