Band Reunites After 45 Years

Posted: Updated:
A band called "The Calientes" was a popular act at many local venues in the late 1960s.  The band hasn't played together in 45 years, but they will reunite this weekend for a special concert.

The band held a practice session today in Millcreek.  They're preparing for a benefit concert Saturday at Rainbow Gardens. It will raise money for the John Kanzius Cancer Foundation's human trials.  The concert has special meaning for the band, since their former drummer died of cancer in 1998.

The group formed in Millcreek when the members were all in junior high. They all went their separate ways after graduating from high school.  After several tries, guitar player Tim Gehrlein finally convinced the band to play one more time.

"It never leaves. You always want to play. You want to get back with your old buds and we get an opportunity to do it," he said.

The concert at Rainbow Gardens will be Saturday.  Doors open at 6.   Music begins at 7.  Tickets will be available at the door.
