State police in Warren, PA are looking for the person or persons who fired several rounds from a rifle Saturday afternoon, hitting a woman at Chapman Dam beach. The incident happened about 1:30 PM in Warren County. State police say the incident is still under investigation. The woman was at the beach watching her grandchildren swim when investigators believe someone fired a rifle into the air from a location north of the Chapman Dam beach area. Many other people were at the beach area when the woman was struck in the shoulder, apparently by rifle fire. She was flown to UPMC Hamot in Erie for treatment.
The beach area is located within a State Park and campground. One visitor told WICU12/SEE News that the campground was on lock down for several hours. Police and the Warren County DA were investigating, and searching vehicles in the area, looking for rifles. Investigators are treating the incident as a case of reckless endangerment. They ask anyone with information who has not been interviewed to contact the Warren State Police barracks at 814-728-3600. State police were assisted at the scene by the Clarendon volunteer fire department, Warren County Sheriff's Department, Sheffield Township Police department, and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
